September 22 is the day and 11:19 a.m. is the hour when Fall finally arrives in the Mojave Desert. Add an hour for Nevada and Utah, which both share a little of the Mojave with California and Arizona. While it’s still hot on the desert floor, the mountains are cool and the aspens are changing color. Too far from the aspen groves? If you’re in the desert, there are Fremont’s cottonwoods somewhere near you, and few trees have such fantastic fall colors.

This autumn is getting off to a strange start, as here in the Mojave High Desert there are carpets of little yellow wildflowers thanks to the hurricane, old Hurricane Hilary which soaked us all pretty good a month ago. What exactly happened to Jim Sullivan, the now-beloved singer-songwriter who was barely known in the 1970s and then disappeared in the New Mexico desert? Music writer Jason P. Woodbury joins us to talk about the re-release of Sullivan’s self-titled 1972 album; Jason wrote the liner notes for this Light In the Attic Records release.

Then we are joined by L.A. witch/journalist Laura Bolt, to talk about the magic of autumn and the spooky scene in Los Angeles and Joshua Tree.
